About Literati
Ever since its inception in 2013, Chandigarh Literary Society’s premier literary event, Literati has grown exponentially and been one of the most revered, attended and sought after events on the Indian literary landscape.
The brainchild of Chandigarh Literary Society’s chairperson, and Festival Director Dr. Sumita Misra, Literati began with the dream of making Chandigarh the destination of choice for literature lovers.
Held at the Lake Club of the iconic Sukhna Lake, the festival is supported by the Chandigarh Administration and reflects the spirit of Chandigarh, and is as modern and vibrant as the City Beautiful itself
Over the years, Literati has witnessed an amazing line-up of diverse minds, internationally renowned authors, exclusive performances by specially commissioned artists, curated cultural evenings, livewire debates and discussions in multiple languages and book launches
The festival’s delightfully penned Literati Digest is a value addition since 2013. It’s the only literature festival in the country held in Hindi, English, Punjabi and Urdu languages.
Literati is a non aligned platform that aims to gauge and engage, a forum that appeals to a cross section of society. Through interactive events and partnerships with various educational institutions during Literati, we make a special focus to attract the youth to reading, writing and literature
It believes in open and liberal exchange of ideas and progressive discourse. The CLS and Literati have an impressive media presence and social media following. As it delves deeper into the mindspace, enlightening the intellect, Literati’s threads of spectacular stories and cerebral conversations, thoughts and ideas, imagination and observation, beautifully come together in this rich tapestry of knowledge.

Words of appreciation
I have attended so many literary festivals but the kind of audience, their participation, has just floored us all.
Literati has garnered unparalleled repute and an enviable status in this part of the world. It is a matter of pride and humility to be a part of this literary Mahakumbh .
I am proud to be associated with Dr Sumita Misra and extend whole-hearted support on behalf of Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi to this literary endeavour
Literati 2024
Theme : Celebrating Creativity
Date : 23th- 24th November 2024
Venue : Lake Club, Chandigarh
Celebrating Creativity at Literati is a theme that encapsulates the essence of human ingenuity and the boundless potential of the imagination. It is a homage to the artists, writers, and thinkers who dare to dream beyond the conventional, pushing the limits of what is possible through their unique voices and perspectives. This theme invites attendees to explore a myriad of creative expressions, from the written word to visual art, from spoken performances to literary innovation. It particularly honors authors and writers, whose words weave worlds, evoke emotions, and challenge our understanding of the human experience. It is an acknowledgment that creativity is the lifeblood of culture and progress, fostering a vibrant, dynamic community where ideas flourish and diversity is cherished.
Through workshops, discussions, and exhibitions, Literati aims to inspire and ignite the creative spirit within each individual, celebrating not just the final masterpieces, but the courageous journey of creation itself. This festival is a sanctuary for storytellers, a place where the magic of literature is brought to life, and the profound impact of the written word is celebrated in all its glory.

ABOUT CLS
The Chandigarh Literary Society (CLS) is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 2011 with the aim of promoting literature and creative writing in the region. CLS serves as a network of creative minds, nurturing talent and bringing together writers, publishers, intellectuals, students and scholars. It organizes book launches, meet the author events, creative writing workshops for school and college children, writer bootcamps, annual trilingual poetry and short story writing competitions and interactive literary events.
The Tree is a powerful symbol of knowledge, life and growth. Worshipped by many civilizations for millenia, it has come to symbolize the mystic power it draws from the Earth and the Sky. The CLS tree-trunk pencil draws upon this power and extends the symbolism to a synergy of creative minds, invigorated by Earthy nourishment and Universal energy, and blossoming into fruitful activity. The diverse branches and leaves, representative of Chandigarh’s Open Hand symbol motto – ‘open to give, open to receive’, epitomize the very mission of the Chandigarh Literary Society.
